Shelters aim to ensure the safety of victims of trafficking in persons who were repatriated from abroad and victimized domestically, to temporarily protect their lives and health, and physical and psychological harassment and impact, to create effective sustainability towards providing reintegration services and to support rehabilitation services in a comprehensive manner.

Shelter Services

A professional team comprised of social workers, lawyers, medical staff, and psychologists is working with stability to provide necessary services in a timely, comprehensive manner.

Providing clients with basic assistance and support of socio-psychological counseling, medical services, food, and household aid reduces their anxiety and calms them down; delivering rehabilitation and reintegration services in a comprehensive manner enables them to find their position in society and to live independently, making these services crucial actions for clients.

SHELTER IN ULAANBAATAR CITY

With the help of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Gender Equality Center opened and initially started running a shelter for victims of trafficking in persons in a rented apartment in November 2007. With the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and Human Security Research Center, we established a standard shelter in Ulaanbaatar city in in September 2008 and in Zamiin-Uud soum, Dornogovi province in February 2009.

Its capacity is to accommodate 6 people at a time. The shelter has an internal surveillance system.

DURATION OF STAY

  • Duration of stay depends on individual cases, situations, and risks, and one can stay for up to three months at maximum. On average, a client stays at the shelter for 24 days.

SERVICES PROVIDED AT THE SHELTER DURING THEIR STAY

  • We can receive victims and clients at any time within 24 hours.
  • Initial/basic direct assistance and support (food, household items, clothing, and health services)
  • We can provide accommodation for our victims/clients who contacted relevant legal organizations until their cases are resolved.
  • During their stay at this shelter, we provide them with psychological and legal assistance and support.
  • We provide rehabilitation and reintegration services in a comprehensive manner.
  • We regularly engage them in vocational and life skills training (handicraft, coral jewelry, cooking various meals, English language training, etc.)
  • Social workers, lawyers, and medical staff work at the shelter.
